Head of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich arrived in Tehran earlier on Monday to discuss bilateral ties as well as matters of mutual interest. His visit seeks to find investment opportunities for Belarussian trades and businesses in Iran’s economy and untapped markets after JCPOA.
Mr. Myasnikovich expressed gratitude for warm welcome Zarif lavished upon him and believed relations with Iran were important for Belarus; “officials in Minsk look forward to improving ties with Tehran,” he added.
Mr. Zarif told the meeting that Iran encouraged companies and industries from Iran coming to Minsk; “Parliamentary ties enjoy also a good position and relations should be further improved yet,” he told the meeting. Among the topics discussed were banking cooperation and university exchange programs.
Still in a different meeting, Zarif also received UN Secretary General’s special envoy to Iraq Mr. Jan Kubiš. The meeting addressed political developments in Iraq and the latest developments on the fight against ISIL, conditions of liberated regions, and the necessity of providing stability and security to the country.
